Carole and Jaci Royal Honored at A.C.E. Awards
Seniors Duo and Group Take Top Awards
Jaci Royal just returned from New York City, where she came in 2nd runner-up for the Capezio A.C.E. Award. It was a huge honor, the gala sponsored by Capezio and DanceMedia, the publishers of five national dance magazines. The A.C.E. is an award for the top emerging choreographers in the country. Jaci will now be able to showcase her work in a performance in NYC sometime this winter. She will be preparing one act and the 1st runner-up will have the other act. The winner, who was Travis Wall (choreographer and dancer for "So You Think You Can Dance") will have his own show probably the following evening.
This was all part of Dance Teacher Summit which was a workshop for 800 dance teachers from all over the world. Carole Royal was one of 4 "ambassadors" who led discussions groups. It was truly a memorable event. |

Dance Works Grad goes Hollywood
Rachele
Smith to star in Center Stage - Turn It Up
Rachele
Smith, a graduate of Royal Dance Works, plays the lead role
of "Kate" in the soon-to-be released movie, Center
Stage - Turn It Up. After graduation in 2006, Rachele was accepted
on scholarship at EDGE Performing Arts Center in Los Angeles.
Upon completion of the 10-month program, Rachele stayed in LA
to continue her studies and pursue a professional dancing and
acting career.
Rachele
was spotted by casting directors from the movie while excelling
in one of her hip-hop classes at EDGE. After numerous auditions
and call-backs, she landed the lead role and had to prepare
immediately to leave for Vancouver to begin shooting.
In
November 2007, Carole Royal visited Rachele on set in Canada
and was amazed by the whole production. The work ethic that
Rachele constantly displayed back at the studio was something
that helped her withstand long days of filming. The producers
(who last worked on Dream Girls) said they couldn't have
selected a better person to play the lead. She is talented,
beautiful, hard-working, and humble. Everyone at the studio
is so excited for her and can't wait until the movie is released!
UPDATE
> With all the filming
of Center Stage 2 wrapped up, Rachel Smith recently stopped
by the Royal Dance Works studio, to teach dance classes for
our performance companies.

RDW VIDEOS
TO RDW: A NOTE FROM A
PROUD FATHER...
When my daughter Susan started taking dance lessons at Royal Dance Works 28 years ago, I never dreamed it would have such a positive impact in her life. From the first eager but slightly awkward dance recital, to competing and winning national awards in New York, to becoming a professional dancer in a foreign country, she has gained the poise, confidence and skills that will last a lifetime. Royal Dance Works sets the standard for high quality instruction and has always taught Susan to strive for excellence. The studio has provided the essential encouragement to enable her to excel at something she loves. I can't think of a better way for a proud father to watch his daughter grow and achieve.
